Runtime Application Self-Protection (RASP) at Black Hat

Today’s Next Generation of Application Security at Black Hat 2016

To date applications have been the blind spot of cyber security with the focus being on securing the perimeter. With more than 80% of attacks now happening at the application layer, a new category of security called Runtime Application Self Protection, or RASP, was identified by Gartner in 2012 as a ‘Must Have Emerging Technology’. In the Gartner Hype Cycle for Application Security 2015 RASP was the only technology that earned Transformational ranking.

Thank you for taking the time to meet us at Black Hat. Below are a few resources to help you learn more about Runtime Application Self-Protection (RASP) and how it can provide accurate security for your applications.

BCC Risk Advisory, Security Assessment

Between September and November 2014 BCC Risk Advisory (www.bccriskadvisory.com) performed a security assessment of Waratek AppSecurity for Java, which is designed to prevent SQL Injection attacks on legacy applications built on insecure code due to weak secure coding practices.

SC Magazine First Look

Here’s the problem: Java is not secure. Here is the solution: sandbox Java apps. Well, it really is not quite that simple, but our First Look this month generated in us one of those “ah ha!” moments when we saw what it was and how it worked.

All aboard the container train! When it comes to securing applications, many have tried sitting on the perimeter, but that doesn’t work too well if the attack comes from the inside – nor does it have the visibility to see what is really happening within the app.

OVUM Waratek OTR

Companies that engage in a lot of their own application development often have hundreds of Java applications running within their environment. Ovum actually knows of one bank that has 40,000.
